Beekeepers Fail To Cover Honey Demand

I read this article from the Slovak Spectator and found that countries that used to export honey are now struggling to produce enough for their own population.


In the UK there are approximately 450 commercial beekeepers (150 full-time, the rest part-time) and 24,000 amateurs. Combined we produce 14% of the total amount of honey consumed/used in this country…. 86% is imported!!

This article by Matt McGrath at the BBC reports on more negative news on using neonicotinoids in farming. That said speaking to some farmers I know they are suffering as a result of pests such as fleabeetle affecting their crops.
